Public Safety Reminder: The Importance of Safe Speeds and Attentive Driving in School Zones
As the school year begins, the safety of our children, families, and school staff is a top priority. Driving at safe speeds and staying attentive behind the wheel—especially in and around school zones—is not just responsible behavior, it’s a matter of public safety. Excessive speed and distracted driving significantly increase the risk of accidents, particularly during school start and release times when pedestrian and vehicle traffic is at its peak. Children can be unpredictable, and a few seconds of inattention or driving too fast can lead to tragic consequences. To help ensure the safety of everyone in our community, the Sheriff's Office will actively monitor and enforce speed limits in school zones, with increased patrols during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up hours. Violators will be ticketed, and no warnings will be given where speed endangers children or school personnel. We urge all drivers to slow down, stay alert, and prioritize school zone safety every day.
Together, we can protect our most valuable assets—our children.
